For a while we noticed on the radar that the German warship F223 was following us. We talked about how safe it is to travel when there is a warship convoy.
We have arrived 10.5 in the idyllic and sunny eastern harbor of Mariehamn. Mariehamn shows us its most beautiful face. The people here have welcomed us with open arms and dozens of guests have come to get to know the ship and the crew.
Video Blog 10.5.2024 - M/S Alpo from Oulu to Normandy
Everything has gone well so far! We spent a couple of days in Turku. Mayor Minna Arve visited us and gave a video speech from the ship. Our crew also visited Alpo’s twin ship Tolva, on the Aurajoki river, which is another US army vessel participating D-Day in 1944.
Alpo departed successfully from Toppilansalmi strait, Oulu, towards Normandy. Icebreaker Tuura is towing Alpo through the ice.
Thousands of city dwellers came to celebrate the departure of Alpo. The number of people showing up impressed us
Alpo is leaving for Normandy. However, the ice situation on the Bothnian Bay is challenging icily.
